Hello Wilfred,
I checked all those points you mentioned in order to augment
the brake power.Everything seems o.k. but no increase in power.
So I changed the whole system: I now use a one-hand-double-cable
system, which means the cables run
directly to the brakes. The inrease
in brake power was tremendous!!
Forcefull brakes mean longer life!!
Greetings
Marco (V26)

Hello Marco,

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you use one hand/brakelever to brake both wheels? Or does each lever just operate one wheel; so left lever for left brake and right lever for right brake?
The last situation is not something I would recommend; it's rather dangerous. If you use one brake much more than the other, you could get your Versatile to spin ending sideways on the road.

Brake system in V026
Hello Wilfred,
I made experiments with both brake
"arragements". During the last 1000
km I used right handle for right
drum and left handle for the left drum. This is the same as Mr Stephens alias Elrey does. It works
fairly well. The danger of spinning
you mentioned is only minimal, but as I usually take both levers at once there is no spinning at all.
The "felt" brake power is superior
to all other arrangements now. The
reason for this are very short and direct brake cables, I think.
I´m planning to go to Dronten for the routine check-up too.
After 3,5 months my versatile has run 5850 km now.
Greetings
Marco

It's good to hear you didn't have any problems with your brakes after altering the brake-cables. I once felt what it's like to make an emergency stop while both brakes weren't activated by the same force (this was with my Alleweder). The result was that I ended up sideways on the drivinglane. Please keep this in mind. I guess you don't want to damage your Versatile and even less, yourself.

You could concider trying the original situation of your brakes when you bring your Versatile to Dronten for checkup. Roland (the builder of our bikes) did a great job on my Versatile and the Versatile of Hans (who had major braking problems). Both of us are very pleased with the results after Roland did some minor modifications/ajustments.

I wonder,
Wat color is your Versatile? And where do you live?

Greetings,

Wilfred

Hello Wilfred,
my Versatile has an icy shining
light blue metallic color.
I´m living in Holtsee a little
village in northern Germany close to the Baltic Sea. I use my bike
everyday to reach my place of work
which is about 60 km a day.
